Have you ever wondered what was your best vacation? At the end of every school year I couldn't wait for summer vacation. My parents took me everywhere. We wnet to Lake George, New York, Montreal Canada and Lancaster Pa.. The biggest vacation we went on was to Lebanon.
Every summer we would go with my Aunt and cousins to either Lake George, New York, Montreal Canada, or Bush Garden in Virgina, but my favorite was Montreal Canada. We would go every year for a few days to Lancaster Pa.. Lancaster was OK, but it was more for the adults. I like the pool at the hotel. As I said, Montreal was my favorite. On our way to Montreal we would always stop at Lake George. I love Lake George there is so much to do there. I remember the one time we went to the Garnet Mine, we drove up this steep hill. When I looked down, I thought we were going to fall down the mountain. I was so scared, but I was only 10 years old. It was only a seven foot hill. Looking for garnets was fun and I still have my bag of garnets. This was one of my best vacations.
After Lake George we went to Montreal, Canada. I love when they talk French, I use to think it sounded so funny. When we would ask for directions, we would not understand them. They would say, to go West but it sounded like go Veest. I love Montreal, we went all over the city. The food there is, " tres bien". Which means, very good. The hotel in Canada was awesome. The pool was like an Olympic size pool. I could of stayed there forever. The Queen Elizabeth Hotel had shops underneath it and it was like a city underneath a city. I remember having a delish crepe and have never had another one like it. The view from our hotel room was beautiful. You could see all of the people from the mountains from a distance.
As much as I love going on vacation with my Aunt and Cousins, this one year my parents surprised us and told us we were going to Lebanon. I was excited, because this would be the first time I would see my Aunt, Uncles and Cousins that live in Lebanon. When we got to Lebanon, I thought it was a beautiful country. We stayed at my Aunt Noel's house. It was great, she has a son my age and a daughter my sister's age. That would be my cousin George and my cousin Karen. There was a place by their house which had rides and food. It reminded me of a Carnival back here in the United States. We would go there and play on the rides and have the best ice cream I ever had. They don't make it here, it was a combination of gelato and italian ice. My favorite flavor was rose water. It tasted like sweet rose water and was creamy and good. Meeting my Mom's family and site seeing was the best part of my vacation in Lebanon.
Lebanon also turned out to be one of my worst vacations because a war broke out and we had to leave before our vacation was over. The day the war started we were visiting our cousins in Tyre, Lebanon. The bridge had just been bombed and it took hours to get back to my Aunt's house in Zahle. We were safe in her town Zahle. Even though we were safe, we could still hear the bombs from afar and I was very scared and could not wait to come home. The United States military had to come in to the country to rescue us. When we left Lebanon we had to leave on a was ship. The military took us to Turkey. We spent the night there on a military camp and ate the military dehydrated food, it was awful. The next day we flew home from Turkey.
After what happened in Lebanon, I never wanted to go on vacation again. Then my Aunt came and took me and my sister to my favorite place, Lake George. We had so much fun. So, I guess I learned that not all vacations are great but when they are great they are really great!!
